Isaac Smith of Delone Catholic High School was the first recipient of the Roots for Boots Major David Borden Young Patriot Award. This award, offered by Roots for Boots, was established to honor Major Borden, a graduate of Delone Catholic who lost a portion of his leg in 2008 as a result of a suicide bomb. The Major did not let that stop his passion for leading Marines as he was determined to get back in the game. His resilience, perseverance and never living a life of regrets was the inspiration for Roots for Boots.
Isaac Smith is a firefighter who spends every minute of the day that he can helping people. He is a role model for his peers of the Roots for Boots Mission, Values and Spirit of selfless giving to others. It was a well-deserved award … Congratulations, Isaac! Keep making us proud …
